Requirements for Catechists
The John 6:35 Eucharistic Youth Retreat retreat is for anyone 13 to 30 years old.  However, those under 18 must be chaperoned by an adult over 21.  For groups, there must be one chaperone for every seven participants under 18.  No one under the age of 13 will be admitted to the retreat.  Chaperones must be with the youth in their care at all times. Please instruct your chaperones on the schedule of events, what the expectations there are for them and the young people in their charge.

All adults who attend John 6:35 must be in compliance with their diocesan regulations as pertains to that diocese's Safe Environment regulations. Each parish is responsible for providing these adults for their groups. If you are unsure, in anyway, of a chaperone's eligibility to assist PLEASE check with your parish's Safe Environment Coordinator or your Pastor.

The Raleigh Diocese has three classifications of volunteers: Level A, Level B and Level C. The latter category is one in which volunteers are required to undergo a more extensive background investigation. (Raleigh Diocesan statistics reveal 2,100 volunteers received “Level C” clearance between October 5, 2005 and June 30, 2007. To achieve clearance, an individual must undergo a criminal background check and training in how to recognize and report child abuse and neglect. More than 8,000 people have been cleared since 2004.)
